Principle

Everything is a resource, even external interruptions, things to hand and disappointments in subject collaboration.

Practice

When something happens that might knock the session off-track, just incorporate it into the session as if you expected it to happen and it were a normal part of the session.

Include external sounds into the images you are suggesting. Create double binds from resistance, making it a cause of compliance.

Example

And as you hear the calling of the birds outside, it might remind you of a warm summer's day, with birds in the trees and soft grass beneath.

You may have not yet reached that memory because you are waiting for the right moment that is nearly here. It is important to get it right now. You can get there when you are ready. Can you say you are closer? Can you see it? That's right.

Discussion

When practicing hypnosis there can be many events that can distract the subject, calling them back to wakefulness, and perhaps knock the confidence of the hypnotist.

Utilization can make the hypnotist seem all the more powerful, as if they had caused the interruption in order to make use of it.
