Principle

If a person believes or accepts something, then they are also likely to believe or accept another thing that is somehow linked to the first thing.

Practice

Take something that has happened or been accepted and then frame it that if they accept the first thing, then they must also accept a second thing.

Explain the first item as a cause and the second item as an effect. Use words such as 'because', 'so', 'as', 'therefore' and so on. For example:

As your arm relaxes, your shoulder will follow.

Knowing that is your problem means you can now let go of it.

Discussion

Our brains work in a connected and connecting way, always looking for cause and effect and other relationships. When we learn, our brains reward us by making us feel good. When a person is offered a linkage they may well easily accept it as it fits with this associative process.
